HE has taken the world by storm and now, following on from highly successful seasons in Sydney and Melbourne from 2007-09, Billy Elliot is headed back down under.
Billy Elliot The Musical will tour Australia Starting in October and continuing well into next year.
The show will head to Sydney's Lyric Theatre from October 10, Adelaide Festival Centre from December, Melbourne's Regent Theatre from February, Perth's Crown Theatre from June and Brisbane's QPAC Lyric Theatre from July.
The show, which features.music by Elton John and book and lyrics by Lee Hall, has been seen by over 12 million people worldwide, receiving 85 awards internationally, including 10 Tonys.
The season marks the 10th anniversary of the hit show's final performances during its initial Australian run and the production features choreography by Peter Darling and direction by Stephen Daldry.
Set amidst the backdrop of the 1984/'85 miners' strike, the hit musical tells the tale of a young boy from a small British mining town's journey from the boxing ring to a ballet class and the way his passion for dance inspires his family and community.
The production features a great cast, including Omar Abiad, River Mardesic Wade Neilsen and Jamie Rogers, who will share the role of Billy.
Based on the hit film of the same name, the show premiered in London in 2005, before moving on to Sydney, Melbourne and then on to the US for a highly successful run on Broadway.
It has since been staged all over the world including an extensive North American tour and seasons in The Netherlands, the UK and Ireland, Hamburg, Tokyo and Seoul.
