A NEW exhibition which will be at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum which opens in October explores the careers and creative partnership of fashion designers Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson.
Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson: Step Into Paradise, is an immersive exhibition presenting the first in depth survey capturing the energy of the pair's partnership by examining the influences, inspirations and stories behind their work.
It includes information about the pair's formative years as creative individuals - from Jenny's experiences in 1960s London, to Linda's travels throughout the Pacific, Asia and Europe.
It spans their return to Australia and the beginning of their creative partnership in the 1970s through to Jenny's designs for the Sydney Olympics and more recent projects.
The pair made highly influential contributions to Australia's fashion industry with their style which was inspired by Australia's cultural and natural landscape.
The exhibition features over 150 garments, textiles, photos and artworks - many of them previously unseen.
Highlights include Jenny's black opal Chanel suit from Karl Lagerfeld's first collection in 1983 and Linda's famous Waratah dress.
Objects are displayed in environments reflecting the artists' inspirations - from the Australian bush, to the Great Barrier Reef.
Linda said people often assumed Australia's cultural fashion movement started in the 1980s, but it actually started earlier.
"There was such a pride in Australia when Jenny and I met, people were travelling back here because they wanted to be a part of this creative revolution," she said.
