AUSTRALIAN musical theatre legend Nancye Hayes will star in new one-woman show, Hayes @The Hayes, deep in the heart of her old Sydney stomping ground from October 2.
Nancye will perform many of her favourite songs - some of them very familiar, others that may surprise - while sharing stories from her incredible life.
Directed by Jason Langley with musical direction by Michael Tyack, the show literally takes audiences back to inner-city Potts Point and Woolloomooloo, where she first moved in the early 1960s.
To Nancye, the show is a reintroduction, of sorts.
"I like to think of this show as a 'getting to know me' - and my life," said Nancye, describing her career as one of "many twists and turns and many wonderful people along the way."
Nancye began her career with J.C. Williamson Theatres as a chorus member in My Fair Lady. She went on to star in big shows such Sweet Charity, Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Guys & Dolls and 42nd Street, to name a few. Her theatre directing credits include The Boy from Oz, Sweet Charity and Gypsy.
Dramatic roles have included parts in Steel Magnolias and Same Time, Next Year. In 2016, she reunited with Todd McKenney to star in the play Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. She was even, briefly, a stand-in actress for Judy Nunn on TV soapie Home and Away.
In the course of her long career, Nancye has received Lifetime Achievement Awards, three Helpmann Awards, four Green Room Awards, two Glug Awards and a Mo,
Devised by veteran theatre man Tony Sheldon, Hayes @ The Hayes promises to be a night of music, joy, laughs and tears.
"I worked with Nancye on her first one-woman show, NANCYE WITH AN E, in 1992," Tony said. "So we're coming to the Hayes with 27 more years of friendship, life experience and, hopefully, wit and wisdom."
Nancye said: "I'm very proud to call the area my home and extremely proud and honoured that the home of musical theatre in Sydney bears my name."
