THE Newcastle City Choir has been going strong for more than six decades and is seeking new members who love to sing.
The group for soprano, alto, tenor and bass vocalists presents its own concerts, performs at civic and community events and occasionally joins forces with other choirs for fundraising.
The choir also performs monthly at care facilities, providing a repertoire of light, popular music to entertain and lift spirits.
Musical director Leanne Sampson has previously spent 25 years leading choral groups in France and has helped expand the group's repertoire to include classical music and songs in Hebrew, Latin and German.
The group holds monthly open rehearsals during which some tips are provided on how to breathe and how to properly use vocal cords.
Rehearsals take place on the first Wednesday of each month from 7-9pm at Mayfield Uniting Church Hall.
The choir is having a concert on September 15, 2pm, at Adamstown Uniting Church.
The choir will present An Afternoon of International Song - with beautiful harmonies from composers as diverse as Verdi and Byrd, Saint-Saens, Dvorak and Mozart. Tickets $20 at the door, concs $15.
