THE resilience of the people of Elizabeth, South Australia, past and present, is on display for all to see at a new exhibition at the Migration Museum.
Portraits of Elizabeth: migration, community and identity, tells the story of a diverse community coming to terms with change.
Photographer Eric Algra's family settled in Elizabeth in 1958. Like many other migrant families, they brought with them hopes and dreams for the future.
Algra, who started his career as a rock photographer, has spent five years photographing people from the suburb; some well known, others quiet achievers.
The project took Alva to the Holden factory just before it closed, and into the living rooms and confidence of ordinary people trying to make ends meet and reshape their futures.
His subjects include battlers, new migrants, a former governor, medical professionals, sportsmen and musicians.
Portraits of Elizabeth runs until September 29. The exhibition is free and open 10am-5pm.
