WHEN some people return from an epic holiday, they might put together a photo album or post their pictures on Facebook.
Flinders University drama lecturer Sarah Peters' walking holiday in Spain left such a huge impression, she has penned a play about it.
Blister is a play based on Ms Peter's 2016 walking trek along the Camino de Santiago, an 800-kilometre pilgrimage across northern Spain.
The work is being shown at Adelaide's Holden Street Theatres in Hindmarsh, July 31 to August 3.
Ms Peters, who has also walked the Inca trail in Peru, said the play is drawn from encounters with real people walking the Camino, also known as The Way.
"Blister explores what happens when daily life is reduced to a 10-kilogram pack, a pair of boots, and a series of yellow arrows pointing you in the right direction... most of the time," she said.
Ms Peters said the central protagonist in Blister, Rosie, was based primarily on her experience "with a bit of creative licence taken here and there".
"But the play is not so much about her as it is about the people she meets, the stories that were shared, and the humanity she experienced.
"For me personally, walking the Camino was an incredible experience that has made me see the world and myself a little differently."
One of Sarah's earlier plays was Bald Heads and Blue Stars which explored the female experience of alopecia, an autoimmune condition that results in varying degrees of hair loss.
