MEN across the nation are being urged to talk about their health as part of Men's Health Week this month.
Backing the annual campaign - which encourages men of all ages to think about their wellbeing and health - is the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
The charity urges all men to book an appointment and talk to their GP about their prostate health.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men.
Every year about 20,000 men are diagnosed with it and around 3500 die from it annually.
Men's Health Week from June 10-16 is an opportunity to host a free awareness talk for your workplace, organisation, or club.
Foundation ambassadors are trained community volunteers who give presentations on prostate cancer awareness, talk about their personal cancer experience and the importance of getting checked.
Check-ups vital
"Regular health check-ups are vital in beating the disease," said foundation chief executive Professor Jeff Dunn.
"Early detection is crucial in effectively fighting prostate cancer.
"Men over the age of 50 - or 40 if they have a family history of prostate cancer - need to talk with their GP about prostate health."
Professor Dunn also urged people to remind their loved ones and friends as well.
While around 95 per cent of people diagnosed with prostate cancer survive for at least five years, it is estimated to be the second most common cause of death from cancer in Australian men.
