JUST short of 100,000 people took part in the Mother's Day Classic - Australia's largest breast cancer fundraiser - with around a quarter participating in the Melbourne event on May 13.
More than 500 walkers were part of the Lifestyle Communities fundraising team who strolled together around the Royal Botanic Gardens, making it the largest group to ever have walked the charity event.
The over-50s retirement living provider invited homeowners and staff of its 17 communities to walk as one in a bid to beat breast cancer.
Lifestyle Communities homeowner and breast cancer survivor Kay Taylor, 63, said she took part in the walk with friends to bring awareness to the disease.
"The fact that we are raising money towards the fight against breast cancer was a big drawcard for me, having previously gone through it myself," she said.
"I hope that this event will create a lot more awareness around this horrid disease and that we can work towards finding a cure."
