VIVID shines through the winter darkness this month as it lights up the skies over Sydney.
The annual festival of light brings large-scale light installations and projections to exciting locations around the city including Taronga Zoo, The Rocks and Luna Park.
This year's visual spectacular spans nine precincts, which light up at 6pm until June 15.
The stellar program features events, workshops and interactive sessions sure to appeal to all ages.
Families can explore the last 30 years of animation through the imaginative worlds of Pixar films under the Argyle Cut in The Rocks. The visual retrospective takes viewers behind the scenes of the artwork and animation of beloved characters including Toy Story's Woody and Buzz Lightyear.
Taronga Zoo is sure to delight with its new lanterns of Sumatran tiger cubs to mark the birth of three new cubs. The illuminated zoo trail also features the vividly coloured marine turtle, a swarm of tiny buzzing bees and a larger-than-life gorilla family, plus a cast of other captivating creatures.
The Royal Botanic Gardens offers an out-of-this-world interactive installation of alien plant matter that reacts to sounds and space.
One of the best ways to see the city lights is from the harbour, and there are plenty of cruises on offer to help you see the full canvas as it sparkles over the water.
What lies beneath the waves hasn't been forgotten either.
By night, Customs House transforms into a watery wonderland with Under the Harbour.
The deep-dive encounter features neon sea creatures splashing across the heritage building's facade, including a giant octopus that bursts out of the water and wraps its tentacles around the sun.
Vivid is expected to draw in huge crowds, with more than two million people visiting the festival last year.
"In 2019 there are so many creative and innovative events to explore and enjoy at Vivid Sydney, from incredible light installations and projections to enlightening discussion panels as well as exclusive gigs all over the city," said Destination NSW chief executive Sandra Chipchase.
"We are confident this year's program will inspire new audiences to experience Vivid Sydney for the first time, as well as encourage avid fans to return once again."
