YOU'RE at a four-way intersection where pedestrians, cyclists and motorists are all crossing or turning. Who has right of way?
That's one of the misunderstood road rules the NSW Department of Transport wants to demystify as part of Road Rules Awareness Week.
"Many people consider themselves good drivers but knowing the road rules such as who has right of way at an intersection and what different signs and traffic signals mean is an important part of road safety," Transport minister Andrew Constance said.
"We want to put a stop fatalities and the trauma suffered when people disregard, or aren't aware of, the road rules. One life lost is one too many.
"We know human error is a huge factor in crashes, so it's important all road users understand the rules, obey the signs and remain vigilant. We need to work together towards achieving a road toll of zero."
In the above scenario, the cyclist B has right of way as it's going straight through the intersection, without a stop sign or give way sign applying to them. When crossing at an intersection, pedestrian D must give way to oncoming traffic going straight ahead.
Car C is turning after stopping at a stop sign so must give way to the pedestrian crossing the road it's turning into as well as all traffic in, entering or approaching the intersection - with the exception of drivers turning right.
Car A is turning after stopping at a stop sign so must give way to traffic in, entering or approaching the intersection.
Other areas of concern are roundabouts, stop signs, overtaking heavy vehicles and stopping at amber lights.
Pedestrian safety is also a major focus.
Last year, 67 pedestrians were killed on NSW roads - 13 more than the year prior. Pedestrians, especially the elderly, are among the most vulnerable road users.
Drivers turning left or right at an intersection must give way to any pedestrian crossing the road they are about to enter.
Road Rules Awareness Week runs from April 8-14.
