Tasmania is a favoured destination for Aussies looking for fresh air and new adventures: and Scott McGregor's Railway Adventures is offering the chance to do just that - by rail, road and river.
This fantastic 12-day tour will be led by railway enthusiast Bob Daniel, who is heavily involved with heritage rail groups in NSW, is qualified in rail safety track awareness and travels regularly on steam and diesel tours.
Running from October 24-November 5, the tour will:
ENJOY a leisurely sunset river cruise on the Lady Launceston;
RIDE the West Coast Wilderness Railway from Strahan to Queenstown with champagne, wine and feasting in the charming restaurant balcony car;
TAKE an excursion by ferry to MONA (the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart);
VISIT Cradle Mountain and explore its beautiful surrounds;
SAIL in comfort on the Lady Jane Franklin II around Macquarie Harbour and up the pristine Gordon River.
The tour will also visit distilleries, wineries, museums and markets as well as take nature tours and walks.
The five-plus hours on the Lady Jane Franklin II from Strahan will explore the remains of Sarah Island, adventure through the notorious Hells Gate and navigate the calm waters of one of the world's last great untouched wilderness areas. A buffet lunch will be served.
Later that day there's a live performance of The Ship That Never Was, a play that tells the true story of the great escape from Sarah Island.
The tour is priced at $6475 per person (single supplement $1740), which includes 11 nights' accommodation, breakfasts, five lunches and seven dinners, and all excursions and entrance fees listed in the itinerary.
A Tasmania by Road, Rail and River tour will also operate next March, with travellers having the opportunity of spending a full day at the colourful Sheffield Steamfest.
