CORAL Expeditions has launched the first 14-night expedition cruise to circumnavigate the Tasmanian coastline.
The cruise aboard Coral Discoverer will leave Hobart on New Year’s Day 2020.
According to Coral Expeditions spokesperson Jeff Gillies the circumnavigation will allow the ship to explore an entire island at a leisurely pace “much like the explorers of old.” The company’s shallow-draught vessel means it can get into those places hard to access by road.
The 14-night Tasmania expedition will focus on the key themes of wildlife and nature, maritime and convict history, local characters and communities and the culinary tastes of the island State.
Highlights include:
The Bass Strait Islands including King Island with visits to beef and dairy farmlands, a kelp factory, Martha Lavinia Beach and the historic Cape Wickham lighthouse.
Hikes through breathtaking Strezlecki National Park on Flinders Island.
Sail down the Tamar River, Australia's longest navigable tidal estuary and partake in a special Winemakers dinner at Josef Chromy Wines vineyard in the Tamar Valley region.
Guests will also have the opportunity to explore Tasmania’s UNESCO World-heritage Wilderness, enjoying treks off the tourist trail including the Fluted Cape and Mt Beattie tracks, and navigating the ‘narrows’ at Bathurst Harbour on the Xplorer tender.
All-inclusive Circumnavigation prices start at $10,990 per person (twin share).
