STAYING active and in shape is an essential part of healthy ageing and whatever your favourite sport, the Great Barrier Reef Masters will have a good fit for you.
The 2019 Games will be staged in Cairns from May 23-26 with early bird registrations closing on March 31.
There will be competitions in 23 sports, including archery, athletics, cycling, powerlifting, swimming and table tennis.
Nine sports will be contested for the first time. The new additions include pistol shooting, dragon boat racing, trail running, lawn bowls and boxing.
Cairns councillor and sport lover Brett Olds said the event attracted tourism to the area, while also encouraging socialisation and helping locals and visitors to stay active and maintain fitness.
"Sport is the glue that holds Australia together, but when a lot of people get to the age of 30 or 35 years old, they stop," he said.
He said the event had steadily grown since the inaugural competition in 2013 and this year organisers hope to attract up to 2000 competitors from all over Australia and overseas.
Councillor Olds encouraged seniors to get involved, saying the event attracted a large number of senior competitors, including in his sport of choice – tennis.
The program offers options for all ages and fitness levels.
And it's not all competition, with tours and social nights also planned.
