METRO Hotel Perth has become the first hotel in Australia to enable cancer sufferers to receive in-room treatment including chemotherapy and medical infusions.
The initiative is a partnership with cancer support group Blue Dot Army and cancer treatment provider chemo@home.
Blue Dot Army is a not for profit organisation dedicated to changing the way cancer treatment is delivered, focusing on the person, not the disease. ‘Blue Dot’ represents the small tattoo a person with cancer must have to accurately guide the radiologist to administer radiation treatment. ‘Army’ represents the advocates, partners and volunteers who support people with cancer.
Blue Dot Army was established by Crystal Howrie after her own experience with cancer left her determined to improve the experience of people undertaking treatment.
Ms Howrie says the new partnership with Metro Hotel Perth and chemo@home would provide a welcome alternative, particularly for those who live a long way from available services.
Families will be able stay together while enjoying all of the usual hotel facilities
Chemo@home is Australia’s leading provider of home-based infusion treatments, whereby highly trained and skilled nursing staff provide home-based cancer treatments.
Metro Hotel Perth General Manager Jeff Hirst, said the hotel would do everything it could to make cancer sufferers feel welcome and comfortable and would ensure they had all the facilities they need.
