FANS of festive tunes in South Australia have a feast of music ahead over Christmas and into the new year.
Adelaide is the place to be over the silly season, with a host of spectacular concerts on over the festive season. Here’s a round-up of some of the entertainment on offer.
Metropolitan Male Choir of South Australia
Get into the Christmas spirit in the Barossa and Adelaide with the Metropolitan Male Choir of South Australia.
The choir will sing at St John’s Luterhan Church, Tanunda, on December 1 at 2pm and Elder Hall in Adelaide on December 8 at 7.30pm.
The program includes traditional carols, some with new arrangements. Both concerts will feature the classic Hallelujah and there will also be a sing-along to give you the festive feel. The choir will be supported by a string quartet and organ soloist.
Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Handel’s Messiah
Is it possible to have Christmas without The Messiah? Performances of Handel’s beloved oratorio have long been an advent tradition, but this year Adelaide gets an extra-special treat. Directing the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra will be UK Handel specialist Christian Curnyn.
Joining him in the Elder Hall concert, December 13-15 at 7.3pm, will be Australian soloists Sara MacIver (soprano), Fiona Campbell (mezzo-soprano), Henry Choo (tenor) and Morgan Pearse (bass) as well as the Adelaide Chamber Singers.

The festival will culminate in the Northern Lights Concert at St Peter’s Cathedral, North Adelaide, on January 19 at 8pm.
The concert will feature the Australian premiere of Kim Andre Arnesen’s Grammy-nominated work Magnificat, plus works by contemporary Scandinavian and Baltic composers.
