BULL’S penis, roasted guinea pig, maggot-infested cheese and mouse wine: what a banquet.
Sounds like something out of a horror movie … but that’s just what is served up at the Disgusting Food Museum in Malmo, Sweden – and much more.
The museum is a repository of “curious foods from exotic cultures” and illustrates the fact that what some people find repulsive, others savour.
So, while you might turn green at the thought of maggot-infested cheese from Sardinia or stinky tofu from China, others relish the thought.
The museum challenges visitors’ notions of what is and what isn’t edible, displaying 80 of the world’s most disgusting foods.
Game enough to smell the world’s stinkiest cheese or taste sweets made with metal cleansing chemicals? Adventurous visitors can test their gumption.
Other treats in store for cast iron-stomached daredevils include spicy rabbit heads, tomato juice with a pickled sheep’s eye, fruit bat, durian, haggis … and, yes, Vegemite.
If you’re one for group activities, you can Taste one for the Team: a team experience designed for groups of six or more adults. Participants can challenge their colleagues to a unique tasting no one will ever forget.
Sounds absolutely tantalising.
Oh, and one more thing: Museum tickets are printed on your own personal vomit bag.
