THE Inland Sea of Sound festival is the perfect excuse to plan a weekend away to inland NSW city of Bathurst.
This festival of music, arts and culture will be staged at Mount Panorama, better known for hosting the Bathurst 1000, from November 30-December 1.
The screech of tyres will be replaced with the melodic tunes of big-name Australian artists Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier, the Cat Empire as well as local artists.
If your camping days are behind you, fear not: there are more comfortable accommodation options on offer, like the four-star Rydges at the bottom of Mount Panorama.
You can top off the weekend by exploring Bathurst's diverse cool climate wine scene or the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery – home to an impressive permanent collection including works from Australian artists such as John Olsen and Fred Williams, as well as one of the finest collections of Lloyd Rees artworks in the state.
Budding artists can create their own original artwork at Atelier d’Airy Creative. Housed in a refurbished Dairy Farmers building, they offer life drawing classes by local and invited master tutors including artist Tim Miller who has artworks in major collections in Parliament House and the National Museum.
Another popular place is Bathurst Art Retreat, 30 minutes from town at Platypus Burra, which offers single or multi-day classes.
