BEING woken by a loud thud in your bedroom at 3am is scary but imagine finding the noise was caused by a carpet python.

Redland Bay resident Ashleigh Muller spotted the 1.5 metre snake on drawers in her bedroom after being woken by a pot plant crashing onto the floor.

“I just heard this loud thud and shot up, putting my light on,” Ms Muller said.

“I was staring at it for a while as it climbed up my shelving before it registered for me that it was a snake.

“I ran into my Mum and Dad’s bedroom shouting ‘there’s a snake in my room’.”

Ms Muller said Redlands snake catcher Tony Morrison was quick to answer his phone, even at the early hour.

“He was there in 20 minutes,” Ms Muller said. “What a trooper.”

The incident occurred the same night as a woman got bitten on the hand by a snake at a house on Russell Island.

A QAS spokesperson said the woman was taken in a stable condition to Redland Hospital after being bitten about 6.30pm on Monday.

Ms Muller, 19, said the snake was the last thing she expected to see in her bedroom but it was the third python the family had come across in the last few months.

The other two snakes were found outside and Mr Morrison had also come to the rescue once before.

“We have lived in the house for about 14 years and have never seen snakes until the last three to four months,” Ms Muller said.

“We have no idea how it got inside.”

Ms Muller said Mr Morrison told her snakes liked to climb up poles and she was lucky that it had not slithered up the bed post.

“I can’t even imaging waking up to that,” she said.

“I guess it could have been so much worse.”

Ms Muller said she took a while to get back to sleep after the early wake up call.
