COFFEE lovers keen to get away from the daily grind and try something different have a new option – the Southern Highlands Coffee Trail.
To mark International Coffee Day on October 1, Destination Southern Highlands launched its new trail to help visitors discover the region’s 97 barista-made coffee spots.
With so many cafes, the region southwest of Sydney can rightfully claim to be one of the largest coffee destinations in Australia. Its largest town, Bowral, alone boasts a staggering 37 coffee outlets.
Other tops include Mittagong, Berrima, Bundanoon, Exeter and Robertson.
“It’s quite the truism to say Highlanders are obsessed with coffee,” Destination Southern Highlands manager Steve Rosa said.
“Ask locals for their best cafe tips and you’ll set them arguing over the merits of one cafe over another, from who has the best beans to who paints the best latte art. “
To download a map of the trail go to visitsouthernhighlands.com.au. The new 2019 Southern Highlands Destination Planner also includes the map.
Already a well known and loved foodie destination, the area recently developed a Pie Trail featuring 50 local pie makers.
Its month-long Pie Time event, allows visitors to revel in fine pastry and get to vote for their favourite pie in the “People’s Choice” award.
Innovations for the 2019 event will include the Pie Bar for boutique bakers and Sauce Street for tasty condiments.
