WISDOM from a fold-up boat, a photographic exhibition by retired ABC producer and director Peter Lindon, tells the story in whimsical fashion of Peter and his friend Paul Chapman’s travels along South Australia’s waterways.
Peter’s adventures started about 15 years ago when he discovered a fold-up boat.
“I had been doing a bit of sailing but when I found the fold-up boat, I knew it was a chance for us to go where we’d never been before,” he said.
“This boat looks something like a surfboard and can be transported on the top of the car, which means we can take it where you can’t take boats that need a trailer.”
The exhibition will be launched with a presentation by Peter and Paul.
“We start by sending ourselves up a bit and then show what fun we’ve had.
“We also seek to highlight that we don’t always know what’s in our own backyard and that the slower we go the more we see.”
The fold-up boat will be there, with visitors welcome to climb aboard.
The exhibition covers the duo’s travels of between 50 or 60 trips on the backwaters and lagoons of our rivers including the Coorong, the ponds of the Murray River and the River Torrens as well as trips down the gulf off Streaky Bay on the Eyre Peninsula.
Another event, The Boaties Special, will be ideal for anyone who loves boats.
“We will explain the advantages of going to remote places, how we used Google Earth to spot attractive places and anticipate difficulties, as well as the practical modifications we’ve made to our curious boat,” Peter said.
The exhibition opens on October 25, 6pm at Prospect Gallery, Thomas St, Nailsworth.
