THE town of Kempsey is getting ready to pay tribute to a true home grown legend and chances of finding a better celebration of his life are Slim to none.
The 15th Slim Dusty Country Music Festival is set to take place at the Kempsey Showground from October 15-21.
The seven day festival will offer entertainment from some of Australia’s best country music performers, camping, busking, a ukulele workshop and a bus tour taking in key locations from Slim’s childhood.
The band also includes Ashleigh’s brother Lindsay and family friend, drummer Adam McCann.
Other performers will include Slim’s son and daughter David and Anne Kirkpatrick and Norma O’Hara Murphy, who won Golden Guitars with Slim in 2001 and 2003 after he recorded her songs Paddy William and An Old Cattle Dog.
The festival’s lineup will also feature The Travelling Country Band, Graham Rodger, Dianne Lindsay and Peter Simpson, old time “dance master” Barry Noble and bush poets.
In addition to a range of entertainment, there will also be a bus tour departing on the Thursday morning of the festival taking in some key locations from Slim’s childhood.
Departing at 8.30am, the bus will head to Perry’s Lemon Myrtle Farm for morning tea and a tour, then on to the Pub with No Beer at Taylors Arm, which inspired the famous song and to Slim’s childhood home at Nulla Nulla Creek.
Seven day entry passes will be available for just $90 per person with various daily prices, while camping passes for two people will be available for $350 or $315 for an unpowered site.
Visitors will also have the chance to visit the Slim Dusty Centre, a museum featuring a range of memorabilia, historical information and a gift shop containing a range of merchandise.
