INTERNATIONAL travellers departing Australia now have the option of checking into their flights using their phones.
With airlines now able to issue electronic boarding passes for international flights, travellers can choose to show their boarding pass on a mobile device instead of using a paper pass.
As the number of people departing Australian international airports continues to rise, the mobile boarding passes will complement capabilities such as SmartGates, which provide a faster, simpler boarder process.
Australia's departure SmartGates now process more than 73 per cent of travellers leaving the country.
The move comes after the Department of Home Affairs ran several successful trials allowing travellers to use mobile boarding passes for international flights.
Before flying, travellers should contact their airline for more information on the change and implementation.
