SIX years since it last played in Queensland Jersey Boys is returning to the Brisbane stage.
The hit musical is set to head north from NSW after a strictly-limited Sydney season in September, with a Brisbane run kicking off in the new year followed by shows in Melbourne from February.
The internationally-acclaimed show tells the true-life story of four guys from the wrong side of the tracks, and the rise to stardom of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, one of the most successful bands in pop music history.
The Sydney run starts on September 6, with Bernard Angel stepping into the lead role of charismatic singer Frankie Valli. Angel played Joe Pesci in the original Australian production.
The Four Seasons sold more than 175 million records and were inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame for their worldwide hits, including Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Walk Like a Man, Bye Bye Baby, Sherry and Big Girls Don’t Cry, which all feature in the musical.
Angel will be joined by Cameron Macdonald as Tommy DeVito, thomas MgGuane as Bob Gaudio and Glaston Toft reprising his portrayal of the band’s musical marvel Nick Massi.
The production has won 64 honours and awards worldwide including the 2010 Helpmann Award, 2006 Tony Award and Olivier Award for Best Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
Jersey Boys opens at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on September 6 followed by a season in Brisbane from January 2 2019 and Melbourne from February 23.
