It’s not unheard of for singing superstars to bring their offspring on tour – especially when Mum or Dad is heading halfway around the world Down Under.
But for Welsh singer Aled Jones, his 12-year-old son Lucas is actually starring with alongside his Dad this September and October as he tours Australia promoting his new album.
For the very first time the Songs of Praise presenter will be joined by Lucas – who bares a striking resemblance to his father – to duet on one of Aled’s favourite hymns, The Lord is My Shepherd.
The song is one of several on his new album – the final in his One Voice trilogy – called One Voice: Believe.
A collection of spiritual classics, the album sees Aled duet with his younger self – man and boy – as well as Lucas.
“On a personal level, this album will forever be extra special to me, as I share one song with my son Lucas,” said Aled.
“He’s never wanted to sing and has never had a single lesson but fancied having a go before his voice breaks. Who am I to stop him – and the resulting duet melts my heart! It’s something for him to look back on in the future.”
Aled will also perform other songs from the new album including Richard Mill’s An Australian Blessing, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu, Franz Schubert’s Ave Maria and the traditional hymn Morning Has Broken.
“This is the final part of what has been an extraordinary journey. Over 30 years on from my first recording as a chorister in Bangor Cathedral, I have enjoyed reliving so many memories from my childhood over the last year and a half,” said Aled.
“To be able to sing with my younger boy voice has been such an emotional experience.”
The tour starts at St Jude’s Church in Bowral on September 15 before travelling around NSW, Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria finishing at St Mary of the Angels Basilica in Geelong on October 6.
