THE printing press was one of the world's greatest technological developments - and a group of enthusiastic volunteers in the Penrith area is keeping the magic of this amazing invention alive.
They are the driving force behind the Penrith Museum of Printing, which has a wonderful collection of print machines dating back to the mid-19th century, many still in operation.
The museum also has a fully equipped composing room complete with make-up stone, a typesetting machine and lots more printing and book-binding paraphernalia.
The museum welcomes visitors including bus tours and runs typesetting courses for those eager to experience the old days of letterpress printing.
The museum, in the grounds of the Penrith Paceway (corner of Ransley Street and Mulgoa Roads), is open on Saturdays 10am-2pm and by appointment.
