It has built a name as the world’s most remote music festival, but organisers of Birdsville’s Big Red Bash hope they will have a new claim to fame following this year’s event.
This year’s event, which will take place in the Simpson Desert town from July 10-12, will include an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people dancing to classic 1973 Tina Turner hit Nutbush City Limits at the one time.
The current record stands at 522 dancers and dancers will come together at the foot of the Big Red Sand Dune to attempt to break it on July 12.
There will be an instructor on hand for people who are unsure of the steps to the popular dance.
Event founder Greg Donovan said the chance to make world history would make this year’s event even more exciting.
This year’s line up features some of Australia’s best loved musical acts, including John Farnham, The Hoodoo Gurus, The Angels, Daryl Braithwaite, Jon Stevens and Kate Ceberano.
Organisers have also made getting to the site easier this year with the introduction of a trip planner, which is available on the event’s website.
