THE South West Rail and Heritage Centre in Boyanup will celebrate the history of the Australind train on November 26.
The Australind embarked on its first trip on November 24, 1947, and has taken people from the South West to Perth and back for the past 70 years.
While the train has undergone changes thanks to technological advances, the exhibition will pay a comprehensive tribute to its history and early years – characterised by hostesses, ticket collectors and distinctive blue and white buffet cars.
The Australind Goes Platinum exhibition will take place from 10am-2pm and feature displays showing the train at various stages throughout its history.
It will also showcase pictures of stations on the line and share the accounts of people who have travelled on it.
There will also be an exhibition of entries from an art competition focusing on schools along the route, a photographic competition, models of the old and new versions of the train and much more.
