RETIRED rugby league champion Ron Coote will be the special guest speaker at a healthy ageing forum at Souths Juniors, Kingsford in Sydney on October 24.
The 73-year-old played the game professionally for 15 years, captained Australia in a World Cup and played in nine first grade grand finals, but is new to speaking about healthy ageing.
Coote has long-standing ties to Souths Juniors, having played his first games in the Jersey Flegg competition for the club when he was 16.
“I thought how good is this? I think it (his time with the club) really solidified me in rugby league,” he said. “I owe Souths Juniors, so when I was asked to do it I said OK.”
Ron tries to train three to four times a week in a routine that involves weights and rowing machines. He also does regular sit-ups, push-ups and stretches and keeps his mind active by doing Sudoku puzzles and playing cards.
