MELBOURNE mayor Robert Doyle says there will be plenty to see and cock-a-doodle-do at this year's Chinese New Year Festival and there is no reason to stay cooped up and miss out.
The Chinese New Year will usher in the Year of the Rooster and Melbourne's annual celebratory festival will take place from January 27 to February 12.
The city will come alive with Chinese New Year cheer as events and attractions will be held across a range of local venues over 17 days.
Festival highlights will include the New Year's Eve countdown at Queensbridge Square on January 27 and illuminations and activities at Docklands each weekend of the festival.
Beijing Dance Academy and China's Three Tenors will perform at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on February 3 and the Chinese Music Orchestra will perform a concert on February 9.
Lighting installations will include peacocks at Docklands, a rooster at Queensbridge Square, blooming flowers at South Wharf and mystical Chinese animals at Queen Victoria Market.
Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle urged people to come along and join the celebrations.
"The festival is one of our city's favourite events that unites families and friends to celebrate Chinese culture and traditions across the city," he said.
