SENIORS groups have welcomed the appointment of David Tune to lead the Aged Care Legislative Review.
The appointment was announced this week by Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, Ken Wyatt
"Mr Tune is the ideal choice to lead this important work, due to his extensive work across economic and social policy reform agendas and his knowledge of the aged care system,” Mr Wyatt said.
Mr Tune is currently the independent Chair of the Aged Care Sector Committee which provides advice to the Government on aged care policy development and implementation and helps to guide the future reform of the aged care system. He was Secretary of the Department of Finance between 2009 and 2014 and has also held senior positions in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, and Treasury..
COTA Australia Chief Executive Ian Yates said: "An essential component of the 2012 Living Longer Living Better changes was this compulsory review in 2016-17. Its timely delivery is critical to addressing the significant challenges facing the sector.
"Mr Tune has chaired the Aged Care Sector Committee during the development of the Aged Care Roadmap by that Committee and is well placed to ensure the Review takes fully into account the opportunities that the Roadmap represents.
"The Legislated Review is a vital step in the aged care reform process, providing the opportunity to advance a new framework for consumer driven, market based, financially sustainable, and also looking at the finer detail of the reform implementation to ensure that all consumers receive quality aged care on a equitable basis.
Sean Rooney chief executive of Leading Age Services Australia said the review was critical for both the industry and the government and "must absolutely involve age service providers".
He said LASA looked forward to working closely to working with Mr Tune on the review and its findings.
