ZOOS SA volunteer Barb Taylor is passionate about what she does. “If you can love the animals like I do, it’s an easy job,” she said. “I get to know all the animals, and I love them.
“I’ve always wanted to volunteer at the zoo. It’s a great group of volunteers who are all likeminded and love animals.
“I never leave here without laughing about something the animals have done during the day.”
Barb, 76, is one of Zoos SA’s 600 volunteers. She volunteers twice week and has done so for 11 years.
Her current role includes mentoring new volunteers, helping with training and appraisals, and guiding the Wildlife Walkabout and behind-the-scenes tours.
The zoo is a not-for-profit organisation so any assistance from volunteers is appreciated.
Volunteers at Adelaide and Monarto zoos contribute about 110,000 hours a year, valued at about $3 million.
