THE federal government has provided $3.9 million funding for a telephone hotline and support services for people affected by forced adoption.
The funds will support seven organisations across the country over three years.
Social Services Minister Scott Morrison said the national apology for forced adoptions in 2013 had acknowledged the trauma and harm resulting from the forced separation of babies from their mothers, and recognised that the pain and suffering of all people affected by forced adoption had endured over many decades.
Mr Morrison said the helpline would provide guidance and referrals, with improved access to personalised services, information on records tracing and local support networks.
Face-to-face services are available in most states. Services will be delivered by Relationships Australia and Jigsaw Queensland.
