DELEGATES from throughout Victoria will converge on Melbourne in September for the U3A Network Victoria Biennial Conference.
With the theme Communities Learning Together, the conference will feature a host of interesting speakers including State Library of Victoria chief executive Kate Tourney, Commissioner for Senior Victorians Gerard Mansour and Leadership Victoria’s Chris Kotur.
U3A, the University of the Third Age, is a voluntary organisation that provides education, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment for retired and semi-retired people.
No qualifications are needed to join or enrol in classes, there are no examinations and no certificates. It is simply learning for the pleasure of learning with like-minded others.
Courses are many and varied, depending on members’ interests and tutor availability. They include photography, literature and film study, yoga, games, book discussion, Greek mythology, science, Auslan, music – the list goes on and varies from branch to branch.
U3A Victoria has 100-plus member clubs with about 35,000 members.
The conference will be held at the Rendezvous Hotel on September 4-5.
