DRIVERS are being urged to take it easy on the roads this Easter long weekend.
Last Easter long weekend, eight people didn’t make it back home and 22 people died on our roads at Easter in 2015.
This year’s aim is zero.
“Over the Easter holidays our roads are busy. For drivers, this means taking your time, planning your trip, and slowing down,” Victoria’s Emergency Services Minister James Merlino said.
“There are choices we can all make every time we use the roads, like slowing down, ensuring you’ve had enough sleep and avoiding distractions. These choices can be the difference between life and death.
“We don’t want to lose another life, or leave another family heartbroken.”
The NRMA has the following holiday driving tips:
- Prepare your car – have it served and check you’re prepared for emergencies.
- Prepare yourself – have plenty of rest and plan the trip to include regular breaks.
- If you plan to have a drink, don’t drive.
- If you’re travelling with children make sure they are fitted with the appropriate child restraints.
- If you have pets in the car make sure they are restrained.
- Tow check when travelling with a trailer or caravan.
- Brush up on good driving techniques.
