WITH the dust settling on the same sex marriage plebiscite, it's time for Australia's seniors to take a bow. You may have voted Yes, you may have voted No ... but you voted - in droves!
Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that those aged 70-74 were the most likely to respond to the survey, with 89.6 per cent of eligible Australians in this group participating.
Perhaps it is a sign that older people take their right to participate more seriously than younger people.
Or perhaps they were more relaxed in actually handling an envelope and using the post!
Overall, 79.5 per cent of the eligible population participated in the survey, which saw the Yes vote (61.6 per cent) prevail over the No vote (38.4 per cent).
