THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have welcomed a son.
Kate went into St Mary's Hospital in Paddington in the early hours of Monday morning and gave birth to the prince at 11.01am, UK time.
Less than six hours later, the proud parents left the hospital, showing off their new baby to the crowd outside.
"Very happy, very delighted, thank you," Prince William told reporters, before joking "thrice the worry now".
Well wishes were quick to welcome the prince on social media.
"Lynne and I send you our warmest congratulations on the birth of a new Royal prince," Australia's Governor General Peter Cosgrove said on Facebook.
"As you already know the arrival of a new baby is another exciting and life-affirming event you no doubt will cherish.
"On behalf all Australians, we send your family our best wishes at this happy and special time."
The new prince is fifth in line to the throne after his grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William, and siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
There is already speculation on the new baby's name, with Arthur, Albert, James, Philip, Thomas and Edward all proving popular guesses.
A statement from Kensington Palace said the name will be "announced in due course".
