LADY Flo Bjelke-Petersen has died in her family's heartland of Kingaroy after a short illness.
In a statement, a Lutheran Services spokesman said Lady Flo died at 3.46pm on Wednesday at its Orana Aged Care Service, where she had lived since August 2014.
"She was surrounded by her family and loved ones including her sister Margaret Gilmour," he said.
"We safely entrust her into the hands of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
"Until recently she actively participated as organist for church within the Orana community and other aged care facilities in Kingaroy."
Lady Flo, famous for her pumpkin scones, served as a Nationals senator in Canberra from 1981 to 1993 and was the wife of Queensland's longest-serving premier, Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen.
Lady Flo was a devoted wife, who stayed by Sir Joh's side through good times and bad, including in the aftermath of the Fitzgerald Inquiry that saw his political demise.
Funeral arrangements were yet to be advised.
Sir Joh died in 2005, aged 94.
Labor Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she wanted to express sorrow and condolences on behalf of all Queenslanders.
"Lady Flo ... brought her passions for cooking - those famous pumpkin scones - family and faith to the fore during Sir Joh’s 19-year service as premier and 40-year service as a Member of Parliament," she said.
"They were a loving couple and a formidable political pairing.
"Lady Flo represented Queensland in her own right serving as Senator from 1981 to 1993, and supporting many local and state-wide causes."
Opposition leader Deb Frecklington, who as Member for Nanango was Lady Flo's local state member, said Queensland's former first lady was an "outstanding and much-loved Queenslander".
“As a Senator for Queensland for 12 years, Lady Flo worked tirelessly for the betterment of rural and regional Queensland.
“She led a very full and successful life and was so-loved for her kindness, her genuine concern and care for others, her common sense and down-to-earth approach to life.
“Rest-in-peace Lady Flo. You were a rock of our community and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. I will always cherish your support and guidance.”
Former South Burnett mayor Wayne Kratzmann said Lady Flo was “just an angelic person”.
“She was so kind to everyone, never had a bad word to say about anyone,” he said.
“Everybody, right across Queensland, but particularly here in the South Burnett, we just loved her dearly."
Mr Kratzmann went to school with the Bjelke-Petersen’s son, John.
“It is 30 years since Sir Joh was premier of Queensland,” he said.
“I'm in Melbourne today and I've been all over Australia travelling and when people ask where are you from.
“You say ‘Kingaroy’ and they say, 'Oh Sir Joh or Lady Flo territory'.
"That legacy is still there. I don't know of any other name that does that.
"I've seen a lot of sporting stars and a lot of politicians, but nothing retains that legacy like the Bjelke-Petersen name."
Former Queensland treasurer Sir Llew Edwards remembered Lady Flo as a "lovely lady, who was a champion for Queensland".
"She was one of the most wonderful people I met and she was very committed to the state of Queensland in every way possible," he said.
"I am very sad to hear of her passing.”
