ONE of Australia’s oldest ethnic clubs, the Danish Club in Brisbane, will open its doors for some lively folk dance workshops as part of this month’s Seniors Week celebrations.
Two dance sessions, starting with demonstrations by club folk dancers, will take visitors step by step through popular Scandinavian country dance sets on August 27.
“The dances of peasants, folk dances are similar yet different across Europe,” president Lis Larsen said.
“If you like country dancing, you’ll enjoy Danish.”
Danish dancing is just one of hundreds of activities being held across the state during Seniors Week from August 19-27.
The state government has distributed $100,000 to help community groups host events from morning teas and information expos to technology seminars, a singalong with Reconciliation Queensland, excursions and opportunities to try new activities.

Dickson: HAVING a great retirement is all about knowing what services are available, what there is to do and how to stay healthy.
And all of that information will be available in one place at the Dickson Seniors Expo. Entry is free and there will be lucky door prizes to be won.
The expo, now in its 14th year, is always a hit with retirees and those planning their retirement.
More than 60 businesses and not-for-profit organisations will exhibit, including retirement villages, social clubs, hobbies and fitness, travel and health, federal, state and local government services.
Entertainment, refreshments, sample bags, fashion parades and informative speakers complete the line-up.
Minister for Ageing Ken Wyatt will give the keynote address at the official opening from 9.30am on August 30.
A free shuttle bus will run to and from the expo and Strathpine shopping centre bus stop every half hour. Street parking is available.

Activities include tai chi, stretchercise, zen meditation, line dancing, painting, a nutrition information session and a workshop on how to begin writing your memoirs.
There will also be plenty of entertainment, with dancing, a bluegrass band performance, and a good old-fashioned singalong.
