THE heatwave conditions predicted across NSW for the next few days is set to have an impact on power supply.
Demand for power is expected to peak between 4.30pm and 6.30pm today, according to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
The AEMO is forecasting electricity demand to reach around 14,7000 megawatts, the highest ever demand recorded in NSW.
Minister for Energy Don Harwin encouraged the community to reduce their energy use where possible to help ease the strain.
"Where you can please do your best to save energy - turn up your air con to 26 degrees, adjust fridge temperatures, switch off unused electrical appliances and turn off lights where it's safe to do so," he said.
The AEMO expects power supply will be adequate on both Saturday and Sunday.
Heatwave Action Plan activated
The Heatwave Action Plan is now in place as temperatures are set to rise above 40 degrees until the end of the weekend.
NSW Health has advised simple precautions to beat the heat including:
- staying well hydrated
- avoiding alcohol and hot or sugary drinks
- limiting physical activity
- staying out of the sun during the hottest part of the day.
Signs of heat-related illness include confusion, dizziness, fainting, nausea, vomiting, weakness and headaches.
People with these symptoms should see their doctor or go to the hospital.
