AUSTRALIANS can soon expect to pay a little more at the post office.
From October 2, Australia Post will charge more for some services including selected domestic parcels, Express Post and international parcels and letters, mail redirection and mail hold services, unaddressed mail, money orders and registered post imprints.
On average, these services will go up 2.8 per cent.
The cost of sending Christmas cards overseas will also change, depending on where they are being sent. Cards to New Zealand will increase by 30 cents and to Asia/Pacific by 20 cents while cards to other destinations will decrease by 25 cents. Domestic card postage will not change.
Standard domestic stamps will stay at $1 or 60 cents for My Post concessions - who will still receive up to 40 per cent off selected products and services.
"We recognise that pricing changes are not easy for our customers and we have worked hard to keep prices unchanged on a large number of popular products, including on our parcel post satchels and seasonal domestic greeting card postage," the company said in a statement on its website.
"The pricing changes will ensure we can continue to invest in our large and trusted delivery network."
The announcement comes less than two weeks after Australia Post recorded a $126.1 million profit before tax in 2016-17 financial year.
Its strong performance was despite a record letter volume decline of 11.8 per cent, contributing to a $180.2 million before tax loss.
Parcels profit was up 4.8 per cent to $299.7 million before tax.
