A PHOTO depicting a 360-degree view of participants at a seniors camp has been chosen from about 400 entries as the winner of the 2017 Seniors Card Through The Lens photographic competition.
Taken by Grant Hugo at Carrickalinga, the photo features on the cover of the 2018 Seniors Card Discount Directory, available to members from next month.
Grant, 64, from Parafield Gardens, created the image, A Huge Circle of Friends, from a series of 12 photos taken as a panorama at a church camp two years ago. He used Microsoft ICE and Photoshop software to create a “tiny planet” image, which gives the impression you are seeing it from above.
“I wanted to take a photograph but I didn’t want everyone set up in a row like a football team,” Grant said.
Through the Lens, the Office for the Ageing’s annual photographic competition for Seniors Card members, showcases and celebrates the skills and creativity of older South Australians.
Finalists and winners in each category receive a large framed print of their photograph.
Minister for Ageing Zoe Bettison said Through the Lens was a reminder that learning is lifelong and that it’s never too late to start a new hobby or renew enthusiasm for an existing one.
Other winning and shortlisted entries were:
- Portrait: Judith Thies – Smiling.
- Landscape: Robert Armitage – Petrel Cove.
- Nature: Craigh Marsden – After the Rain.
- Seniors in Action: Judith Thies – A Long Wait for a Long Drop.
- People’s Choice: Susan Belperio – Scarred for Life
