PLANS for a $50 million aged care development for up to 120 older people in Adelaide’s west have been unveiled by UnitingSA.

The development will be built on 6600sq m on the site of the old AAMI  football stadium on West Lakes Boulevard.

The UnitingSA West Lakes development will have three storeys of residential aged care including 108 private rooms with ensuites, an 18-bed memory support unit for people with dementia and 17 retirement living apartments on the top floor.

On street level there will be a cafe, hairdresser and health services, which will also be open to the public.

UnitingSA chief executive Libby Craft said the design “invites the wider community to come in and enjoy the ground floor shops and services while also making it easy for residents to get out amongst the action”.

“Aged care sites are often found in suburban backstreets but this development changes that and brings residents into the vibrant hub of the community,” Ms Craft said.

Building is expected to start early next year.
