BOWLS champions Julie Keegan and Ryan Bester will be teaming up for a one-off event - at the opening of a new international-standard bowling facility in Toowoomba.
But this state-of-the-art green is not housed in an elite sporting facility only open to medal-winning athletes. It's the latest addition to Palm Lake Resort Pinnacle lifestyle village.
Australian champion and Commonwealth Games silver medalist Keegan and Canadian Bester, who is based in Queensland, will be officially opening the new bowling green and facility at the retirement village - a new extension of Palm Lake Resort Toowoomba - on April 20.
The undercover bowls green and air-conditioned clubhouse has stunning views of the Northern Valley.
Palm Lake Resort Toowoomba Bowls Club president Ron Rosentreter said bowling was very popular among residents.
"There are currently more than 80 active members in the current resort bowls club," he said.
And with a further 330 villas scheduled for completion as part of the new development, management expects many more enthusiastic bowlers to join in the community, giving it the edge in inter-resort competitions.
Each year the residents compete for the Palm Lake Shield, with Toowoomba coming third in 2015 and runner-up last year.
Sportcrete was the company tasked with installing the surfaces for all Palm Lake Resort lawn bowls facilities. Sportcrete spokesperson Ben Sutcliffe said the world-renowned Greengauge woven bowls surface is used at all Palm Lake Resorts for its performance, durability and consistency.
"It's a surface that's renowned for providing consistent speeds of 15-16 seconds, which is ideal for all levels and styles of bowling," Ben said.
Guests are invited to come along to the open day and get tips from the experts as well as take part in workshops and watch the champions in action.
There will be complimentary light refreshments as well as morning and afternoon tea and lucky door prizes.
The facility's newest display villas will also be open for inspection on the day.
Guests wishing to take part in workshops will be required to have the appropriate footwear. The event is free, but RSVP is required, phone 1800 280 129.
