FOR YEARS Ivor Paech's wife ran her own ceramic business from their home.
When his wife died, the couple had accumulated a vast number of moulds and equipment in their house. Then a year ago Mr Paech decided it was time to downsize and move out of the home he had shared with his wife for decades.
"I got to the stage of needing to move to a home where I could be taken care of when the time came. I had almost left it too late as my health was starting to tell me to slow down. The home my wife and I had built almost 60 years prior was far too big and the garden was enormous," he said.
After doing his homework, Mr Paech found an opportunity at the ACH Group Perry Park Retirement Village in Port Noarlunga.
"It offered all the comfort of home where I can still have my independence but the support when needed."
But for Mr Paech, the most difficult part of my move was selling his home and parting with and disposing of all the accumulated "stuff" he and his wife had collected over a lifetime.
"A friend suggested Seniors Real Estate Adelaide, a division of Adelaide's oldest real estate firm, Gaetjens. Their consultant Roland Glazier has over 30 years' experience, helping seniors downsize but above all he was someone I could relate to," said Mr Paech.
"My home was sold in a week at more than my asking price. They even took care of disposing of everything I no longer needed and tidied up my home for the new owners. It didn't finish there, Roland even organised a conveyancer to visit me at my new home to finalise the paperwork. They offered good old fashioned and understanding service from start to finish."
