PEOPLE with knee osteoarthritis are being sought for a clinical trial of a new cannabidiol skin gel (a synthetic non-stimulant derivative of cannabis).
Arthritis is estimated to affect three million people or about 15 per cent of the Australian population.
The clinical trial is being run by a USA pharmaceutical company in major hospitals and centres in Victoria, Queensland and NSW.
To be eligible trial participants must have been medically diagnosed with osteoarthritis in one or both knees for at least the past 12 months.
Study medication and medical check-ups by doctors, specialists, and qualified medical professionals are free of charge and travel costs for each clinic visit will also be reimbursed.
The clinical trial has been reviewed and approved in accordance with the Australian Human Research Ethics Committee process.

- NSW - Royal North Shore Hospital, St Leonards, Pendlebury Research, Adamstown, Genesis Research Services, Brroadmeadow, Holdsworth House Medical Practice, Sydney.
- Victoria - Emeritus Research, Malvern East, Sports Medicine Professionals, Richmond
- Queensland - AusTrials Pty Ltd, Sherwood, Rheumatology Research Unit, Maroochydore University Sunshine Coast Health Clinics, Golden Beach Griffith University, Southport.
