A FREE online course designed to help people with diabetes confidently manage their condition is being offered by Curtin University.
The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), Living with Diabetes, will cover five modules focusing on the different types of diabetes, who is at risk of developing diabetes, and how each type is treated.
"We know that living with diabetes can be tiring and frustrating for both the person affected and the whole family, with statistics showing diabetics are twice as likely to develop depression compared to those without diabetes," said Curtin University School of Public Health lecturer Patricia Marshall.
"The Life with Diabetes MOOC covers a range of topics including recommended food choices and eating habits, the benefits of physical activity and how to manage stress.
"Participating in these types of online learning courses is a great alternative for anyone around the world to learn important information about diabetes."
The course contains critical information about how to manage medications, which devices can be used to deliver insulin, and how to manage your mental and physical health.
Throughout each module, participants will meet people with diabetes who will share their own experiences and how they have managed the condition.
The five-week course begins on September 4. It involves about three to four hours per week.
