THE Macular Disease Foundation is calling on people to capture an image that illustrates the theme 'See My World - In Your Own Backyard'.
The foundation's annual mEYE World Photographic Competition, now in its seventh year, aims to raise awareness of macular disease, the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia.
A high profile judging panel will include foundation patron Ita Buttrose, internationally recognised photographer Rex Dupain and one of Australia's longest serving news photographers Alan Pryke.
"Photography captures the world around us like no other medium; it shows our interests and passions, and often reveals what we truly treasure," Ms Buttrose said.
"I want everyone who enters our competition to reflect on how precious their sight is and to treasure that too."
Foundation chief executive Julie Heraghty said the competition was a fun way to remind us to look after our vision "so we can all see a future".
Entries are open in four categories: open - general public; macular disease community; healthcare professional; and junior (under 18).
Entries close on October 3 and must be submitted online accompanied by a 30-60-word explanation of how the photograph depicts the theme.
There will also be a People's Choice award for the most liked photo on the foundation's Facebook and Instagram accounts.
