CONSUMER watchdog CHOICE has launched a site to help people save on their electricity bills.
The watchdog claims the new service is resulting in individual savings of up to $1500 per bill for consumers in NSW, Victoria, South Australia and south east Queensland.
CHOICE head of media Tom Godfrey said the watchdog had decided to intervene in the electricity market in order to cut out commercial switching sites which are paid to sell products for energy companies.
"Unfortunately, the electricity market has been stitched up by cosy deals between power companies and commission- driven switching sites with most of the potential savings siphoned off by industry through shadowy backroom deals," he said.
"Our service dynamically scans all the available deals on the market without you having to decipher the technical jargon."
"Unlike conflicted commission-driven sites, if we can save you more than $99 you can pay for us to continue to monitor the market for you for the next 12 months.""Every time we find you a better deal, we'll switch providers for you."
To try the service, consumers just need to visit canisaveonenergy.com.au and to upload their bill in order to see if they can make a saving.
