TASMANIA'S second Steampunk Festival will come chugging through George Town on June 24.
The festival started in 2016 as George Town's solution to bringing the community together mid winter, while also connecting the aspects of the area: maritime heritage, industry and art.
A mixture of quirky and eccentric music, machinery, costumes and exhibitions will be displayed and performed throughout the weekend, Steampunk Festival president Anne Cameron said.
"Steampunk Tasmania Festival will be a celebration of the genre. Its retro futuristic nature combines Victoriana, with mechanisation, invention, art, literature and photography," Ms Cameron said.
"Steampunk emerged because it starts in the Victorian era and can take you to any time you want to visit," she said.
George Town has a European maritime history dating back to Victorian times and it is also the largest heavy industry precinct in Tasmania, making it the perfect location for the state's Steampunk Festival.
"The festival aims to create a playful integration of George Town's seemingly disparate cultures and engender a stronger sense of place and pride embedded in industry and maritime heritage," Cameron said.
"Because it's not your everyday topic it's taking a while to get people to understand [what Steampunk is>[/embedp>
