OVER the course of their almost five-decade career 10cc is proof that Australians are still in love with the English art rock band.
The Manchester quartet, which founded in the 1970s, and wrote classic hits such as I'm Not In Love, Donna and The Things We Do For Love, is returning to Australia as part of its world tour, kicking off in Queensland in April.
Led by co-founder Graham Gouldman, the current live band, which has been together for more than a decade, features Gouldman on vocals, bass and guitar, with Rick Fenn, Mick Wilson, Paul Burgess and Keith Hayman.
Purveyors of some of the greatest pop records of the 20th century, 10cc has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. The original line-up comprised four singers, writers, producers and multi-instrumentalists. The band dominated the airwaves in the UK in the '70s with hits including their debut single Donna in 1972, Rubber Bullets, The Wall Street Shuffle, I'm Mandy Fly Me, Life is a Minestrone and Silly Love.
Just a year after its release, I'm Not In Love was voted number one in an all-time top 100 survey in the UK before the Beatles' Hey Jude, Simon and Garfunkle's Bridge Over Troubled Water, the Rolling Stones' Satisfaction and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.
There are 12 dates on the tour which visits Caloundra, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast in Queensland, Sale and Melbourne in Victoria, Perth, Canberra and Hobart. In NSW the band plays in Wollongong, Penrith, Revesby and Kingsford.
- The tour kicks off at the Events Centre in Caloundra on April 26 and finishes at the Southern Cross Club in Canberra on May 12. Tour dates and tickets www.lennardpromotions.com.au
